kak-vybirat-kamni-dlya-akvariuma

If you want to add rocks to your aquarium, there are two options. First, you can buy aquarium stones from a specialized store. If this option does not suit you, you can try to find suitable stones yourself. It is clear that the stones purchased in the store are almost ready to place them in the aquarium, as they are already cleaned, the only thing that is frustrating is their cost, which can be considerable.

If you decide to find stones for the aquarium on your own, you need to be guided by some rules. You can not just take any stone you like and put it in the aquarium. You must take into account a lot of conditions if you want to preserve the biological balance in the aquarium and protect all its inhabitants from various diseases. If still the “wrong” stone is placed in the aquarium, the result can be disastrous.

How do you choose aquarium stones?

Obviously, you would save money by getting your own stones. However, if you make a mistake and choose the wrong kind of rock, you risk the health of the inhabitants of your aquarium. For example, if you find a random rock in your yard, there is a good chance that it will change the water parameters of your aquarium over time. Some rocks can change the acidity (pH) and hardness (dH) levels of water. If you try to maintain a certain pH level in the water, you will find that it will be impossible to do so as some rocks are capable of changing it drastically.

Another thing that you need to pay your attention to is bacterial growth. Some stones may contain a lot of bacteria that can easily multiply in the aquarium as well. In this regard, a rule of thumb to follow is to avoid getting stones from polluted areas.

Perhaps you decide to look for suitable stones on the banks of the river, thinking that since these stones are located near the water, they are suitable for the aquarium. In fact, this is not the case. Stones from rivers and ponds will contain potentially dangerous bacteria and other microscopic organisms that will not be welcome in your aquarium.

Make sure the rocks you find do not contain iron impurities. Many metals will oxidize under water, which is very harmful to all aquarium inhabitants. Therefore, avoid the presence of metal impurities in stones at all costs.

Thus, to avoid unfortunate mistakes when choosing stones for the aquarium should be guided by the following:

  • do not take stones from rivers;
  • do not take stones from polluted areas;
  • stones should not contain impurities of metals.
