AQUARIUM THERMOREGULATORS

Tropical fish require a natural temperature level (approx. 24°C). Heating the water in the aquarium is in many cases a necessity. Keeping fish at a lower water temperature causes their coloration to become pale, they become lethargic and stay in one place for long periods of time. In addition, at too low a temperature, fish are susceptible to many diseases.
In order for all inhabitants of the aquarium was comfortable in it the water temperature should vary depending on the time of year and time of day.
Seasonal temperature change - from November to March, the water temperature in the aquarium should be lowered by 2-6°C. This temperature change will mimic the natural conditions of the fish during this time of year.
Daily temperature change - at night there is no sun, so the water cools down a bit. It is recommended to lower the water temperature at this time in the aquarium by 1-3°C.
Such changes in water temperature are generally beneficial for fish and aquarium plants. However, the temperature should not be lowered below the lower limit that is optimal for the particular fish species.
Equipment selection
There is a wide variety of thermostatic controllers available in the retail network, which precisely maintain the water temperature at a preset level. Installation of such thermoregulators is very simple and safe, provided that you have familiarized yourself with the manufacturer's instructions. Also, the cost of the thermostat is relatively low and will not hit your budget hard. Heaters are available in different wattages.
Choosing the wattage of a thermostat is usually not a big problem. In general, we can assume that for 1 liter of water should be about 0.5 watts. The wattage of thermoregulators is standardized and you can find them in the trade with wattages of 5, 10, 15, 20, 20, 25, 30, 35, 35, 40, 40, 50, 75, 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250, 300 watts.
For example, you have an aquarium 60 x 30 x 30 (54 liters). for such an aquarium, the minimum power of the heater should be 25-30 watts. The best option would be to purchase a 60-watt thermostat.
In some cases, it is necessary to take into account the temperature of the air in the room where the aquarium is installed and if the room is quite cool, it is necessary to select a thermostat helper.
When installing and purchasing a temperature controller, remember:
- The temperature controller is best placed on the back wall of the aquarium or vertically near the edge.
- Do not place the thermoregulator too close to the gravel, because the water circulation may be impaired. For aesthetic reasons, it is best to hide the temperature controller behind stones and plants.
- Make sure that the temperature controller is completely sealed before switching it on.
- The thermostat should always be under water so that it does not fail from overheating the glass.
- All electrical connections should be made away from the water. Installing any aquarium electrical equipment is safe if all precautions are followed. If in doubt, seek the help of a professional.
