Glugea

Glugea is an invasive disease that affects not only aquarium fish, but also their relatives living in the wild. According to statistics, the largest proportion of fish sick with this disease are fish of the group of carpozubyh. The causative agent of this dangerous disease are small sporozoites of the genus Glugea. Getting together with food, they affect the internal organs of their victim (gills, eyes, liver, muscle tissue). In the process of division sporozoites rapidly multiply, and then getting into the blood spread throughout the body.

The process of disease development proceeds as follows. Inside healthy cells, cysts are formed. As a result of the body's reaction to form pineal protrusions scattered throughout the body of infected fish. These tumors are quite large and it is impossible not to notice them.

Symptoms of the disease

Usually Glugea provoke new, already infected fish that have just been introduced into the aquarium, also pathogenic spores can get into the aquarium with live food, soil, plants and water taken from other aquariums or natural bodies of water. Sporoviki very resilient and not finding the body of its victim can be dormant for a long time.

The main symptoms of disease in infected fish are:

  • exophthalmos on one or both sides;
  • lump-like growths on the body;
  • ulcers and blood clots on the body;
  • the fish cannot hold its body in a normal position and constantly falls over sideways.

Treatment of Glugea

Glugea belongs to those diseases that have no cure. Diagnosis of this disease involves many difficulties, which are caused by similar symptoms, such as mycobacteriosis or ichthyosporidosis. Detect infection spores can only be detected as a result of microscopic examination of pineal growths on the body of the fish, which for many aquarists is a difficult task due to the lack of a microscope. If you diagnose the disease, then the fish will have to die. In the case of neglected disease is very likely that all other inhabitants of the aquarium are infected with it and if this is in fact true, then they will have to get rid of them.

With Glugea, as a preventative measure, you should boil all decorations and soil, and sanitize the plants and the aquarium itself. All aquarium inhabitants, even if they are not observed signs of disease, it is necessary to transfer to a quarantine aquarium for 1-2 weeks and closely monitor them and if there are no signs of disease they can be moved to the aquarium.
