Luciosoma spilopleura

Luciosoma spilopleura occurs naturally only in water bodies of Indonesia; the fish is known to inhabit the river systems of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Indonesian part of Borneo. In Sumatra, fish have been observed in the southern part of the island, in the Batang Hari and Musi river systems, in Borneo in the upper Kapuas River in West Kalimantan province and in the Mahakam drainage in East Kalimantan. The fish inhabit shallow, fast-flowing rivers, with substrate consisting of stones and gravel. These fish are very rarely seen in aquarists' collections.

Luciosoma spilopleura

Luciosoma spilopleura has a silvery coloration. The body of the fish displays a dark, intermittent stripe running from the head and ending at the edges of the tail plumage. Sexual differences are practically not expressed. The maximum size of the fish is about 8.5 cm.

The Luciosoma spilopleura is a fast gregarious fish. Keep these fish in a group of at least 10 specimens in the aquarium of 300 liters. In this case, the fish are less shy and will exhibit natural behavior. The fish can be kept in a community tank with other peace-loving fish of comparable size. Do not keep dark-sided luciosomes together with smaller fish, which may sooner or later become their prey.

The substrate is suitable for medium to large-sized gravel. Large stones and snags should be placed at the bottom. The perimeter of the aquarium should be planted with tall plants.

Fish have high demands on water quality. Requires an effective canister type water filter, as well as increased aeration. A weekly change of 1/3 of the aquarium water with fresh water. Water parameters: temperature 24-27° C, hardness dH 4-15°, pH 6,0-7,5.
