Bryconella pallidifrons
Bryconella pallidifrons naturally in the Amazon basin. The fish can be found from New Mexico and Arizona (USA) to Patogonia (Argentina), but the main population is found in Peru.
Bryconella pallidifrons has an elongated body with a greenish-silver colouration. The belly is white and the back is brownish. A row of light gray scales runs along the surface of the back. There is a dark spot near the gill lids. In the central part of the body there is an intermittent line of greenish coloration with silvery mottling. The unpaired fins have white streaks. Females have a rounded abdomen, males are more slender. The size of these fish in the wild is up to 6 cm, but in aquariums they are usually no larger than 4 cm. Fish spend most of their time in the middle and upper layers of water.
Keep the Bryconella in a flock of at least 10 fish. Only in a flock the fish feel more relaxed and exhibit natural behavior. It should be noted that the fish Brikonell harmless and contain them without problems can be in a common aquarium with other peace-loving fish.
Water parameters: temperature 26-28° C, hardness dH 2-15°, pH 5,5-7,5. Need filtration, aeration and weekly replacement of 1/3 of the aquarium water with fresh.
Coarse-grained river sand or gravel can be used as substrate. Various decoration elements in the form of driftwood, grottoes and large stones can be placed at the bottom. The perimeter of the aquarium should be planted densely with a variety of aquarium plants, with stiff leafs. Soft-leafed plants will be eaten by fish. Also provide plenty of free space for swimming.
The fish look their best in dim light, but it is important to keep this in mind when selecting plants for the aquarium, and to choose species that are very light-intensive.
The diet of the fish consists of various live and frozen foodstuffs such as Artemia nauplii, daphnia and bloodworms. They do not refuse flake food. Keep them varied - this is the only way to achieve brilliant coloration. The food is given 2 times a day.
Reproduction
The Bryconella pallidifrons does not propagate under aquarium conditions. This accounts for the fact that these fish are very rarely seen in trade. In these fish there is a related subspecies of A. f. Mexicanus - a blind fish from Mexico, breeding them in artificial conditions is not difficult, and therefore often found on sale.
The life span of a Bryconella under aquarium conditions is about 4-5 years.
